Categories of Saffron

There is different categories of dried saffron (included powder, filaments and cut filaments) and there are various grouping definitions for saffron, but we are introducing here the most valuable and practical for your saffron selection as theses three definitions:

             3. Groups of morphological conditions of saffron in a package

Grades of chemical specification

specification of saffron by ISO 3632-1:2011 :

  • Grade I:    Crocin>200
  • Grade II:   Crocin>  170
  • Grade III: Crocin>  120
  • Grade IV: Crocin<  120

Groups of morphological

  • Grade A can contain ~5 – 8 % broken stigmas.
  • Grade A+ it contains ~3 – 5% broken stigmas.
  • Grade A++  it contains ~97 – 98% unbroken stigmas.
